DALTON, Ga. — A woman who was shot twice by law enforcement officers after she and a man reportedly led them on a two-state car chase that ended near the Walnut Avenue exit of I-75 South last month has been released from a hospital and is in jail.
Clinique Jashauna Jackson, 33, of Conyers was released from Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga and taken into custody by the Bradley County (Tennessee) Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, according to Special Agent Joe Montgomery of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Calhoun office. According to the Bradley County jail, Jackson was booked on charges of shoplifting, aggravated assault and as a fugitive from justice. Montgomery said she faces multiple charges in multiple jurisdictions in Georgia and Tennessee.
“She still has warrants and paperwork in Rockdale County and is wanted out of Conyers, Whitfield County and Hamilton County (Chattanooga, Tennessee),” Montgomery said. “I don’t know how all of that will be sorted out at this point.”
Jackson and Parrish Smaely of Jonesboro were charged after a string of alleged crimes, stretching from Cleveland, Tennessee, to Dalton on Aug. 22. Jackson is being held without bond after appearing in a Bradley County court on Tuesday. Smaely is in the Whitfield County jail without bond.
Before the chase began, the pair were shoplifting in Cleveland and store employees were threatened with a handgun, according to the GBI. The chase ended when a Georgia State Patrol trooper executed a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver on the car. Smaely — the driver — surrendered. Jackson left in the vehicle and a second PIT maneuver was used by a Whitfield County deputy.
Jackson got out of the vehicle with two handguns and pointed them at officers, according to the GBI. Special Agent in Charge Greg Ramey said an officer from Hamilton County and one from the Tunnel Hill Police Department shot Jackson. Neither has been identified.
Smaely is charged in Whitfield County with fugitive from justice, DUI, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, use of a license plate to conceal the identity of a vehicle, open container violation, hit and run, fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer, driving on a divided highway/controlled access road/emergency lane, failure to maintain lane, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving and driving while license is suspended or revoked. He was denied bond on Aug. 28. A date for his arraignment has not been set in Superior Court.
