VALDOSTA — After some possible widespread storm activity Monday, South Georgia can look forward to easing storm chances and seasonable temperatures toward the end of the week, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service predicts a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms for Valdosta Monday, with chances easing to the 20-40 percent range for the rest of the week.

A dissipating cold front stalled over the area drove the weather Monday, said Frank Strait, senior meteorologist with the private forecasting firm AccuWeather.

Once the front falls apart, storm chances should drop, he said.

“Slightly drier air from the east will be moving in, lowering storm probabilities a little for the rest of the week,” said Wright Dobbs, a meteorologist for the Tallahassee, Fla., office of the weather service.

Normal high for this time of year is 92 in Valdosta, Strait said. The weather service pegs Valdosta highs weeklong at 91-92 degrees.

“It’s a week of typical summertime patterns,” Strait said.

Lows all week should be around 73 degrees, according to the weather service forecast.

Neither meteorologist saw much of a chance of widespread severe weather, though both said isolated storms were possible.
