Statewide, Kemp won 406,638 votes statewide, compared to Cagle’s 178,877 statewide votes.

Kemp will face Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams in the Nov. 6 general election.

The runoff election for the Tift County Board of Education district 6 seat was won by Rusty Harrelson, who defeated Jimmy Cargle 305 to 266.

Harrelson garnered 53.42 percent of the vote, which made him the clear winner.

Harrelson received 42.86 percent of the vote in the May election and Cargle received 38.35 percent.

The third candidate, Jo Windom, received the remaining 18.79 percent of the vote in May.

Since all of the local seats were only contested by a single party, the primary and runoff winners effectively win the November election, barring write-in candidates.

In the race for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, Geoff Duncan won by the narrowest of margins

Duncan received 1,382 votes in Tift County and 279,226 votes across the state. Opponent David Shafer received 1,066 local votes and 277,496 statewide.

That splits the vote by less than one percent. Under Georgia law, it’s possible to call for a recount when the the margin of victory is less than 1 percent.

The winner will be running against Democratic candidate Sarah Riggs Amico.

Brad Raffensperger won the Republican nomination for secretary of state.

Tift County voted for Raffensperger 1,466 to David Bell Isle’s 861. State-wide, Raffensperger brought in 329,667 to Isle’s 204,159.

Raffensperger will be running against Democrat John Barrow and Libertarian Smythe Duval.

The runoff for the Democratic candidate for State School Superintendent between Otha E. Thornton, Jr and Sid Chapman ended with Thornton winning Tift County 70 to 66.

Thornton’s state total was 86,691 and Chapman’s total was 59,998.

Thornton will be facing off against incumbent Richard Woods in November.
