- Joe Griffin plans to sue the Town of White Springs again.
WHITE SPRINGS, Fla. — White Springs citizen Joe Griffin informed the White Springs Town Council of his intent to sue the town again at the July 10 meeting.
Since moving to White Springs in 1999, Joe Griffin has filed 20 lawsuits against White Springs prior to this suit.
Griffin filed a complaint on May 23 against Vice Mayor Tonja Brown. The complaint states Brown became a “rogue council member” after she directed the former code enforcement officer to cite a mobile home park for violations.
The complaint asks how this request from Brown was different from council member Helen Miller “seeking support for her projects.”
The council voted in June 2017 to declare Miller’s seat forfeited after Town Manager Stacy Tebo called Miller a “rogue councilwoman” at the May 2017 meeting for not going through the town manager to purchase supplies and equipment.
The council reaffirmed its previous vote in October 2017 to declare Miller’s seat forfeited.
“I am here tonight to fulfill my obligations underneath the Town Charter Section 10.04, which says that I must give you 30 days notice prior to legal action,” Griffin said.
The lawsuit would be against Mayor Spencer Lofton and Brown.
Griffin said Lofton’s investigation into the complaint was in violation of the Sunshine Laws.
The preliminary suit alleges Lofton and Brown discussed the complaint in private and Lofton made a personal decision to void the complaint.
Griffin asked that the investigation into his complaint be redone according to Sunshine Laws.
“I will see you in August so you can decide whether you want to go to court,” Griffin said.
