Mercedes, camper, mower, firearms among items reported stolen

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Thieves made off with nearly $75,000 in loot during weekend thefts and burglaries, with a car and a camper accounting for the bulk of that amount.

Other stolen property included numerous guns, a riding lawn mower, a boat and a bicycle.

At 7:35 a.m. Sunday, Moultrie police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fairview Drive, where Robert Andrew Bartosh arrived home to find his 300 Series Mercedes-Benz missing. The car is valued at $33,000.

Along with the black sedan, $7,000 worth of firearms were taken, according to police reports.  

Among the property reported stolen to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office was a 2017 Forest River Flagstaff camper from the 2100 block of Highway 37 East.

Ricky Smith, who reported the theft, valued the camper at $22,000.

And in Ellenton, in the 100 block of Central Avenue, Jackie Castleberry reported the theft of a Husqvarna Z254 riding lawn mower valued at $3,995.

In other burglaries:

• Theresa Chastain, 7100 block Highway 37 West, Hartsfield, reported Friday the theft of property valued at $1,500 along with $600 withdrawn from her debit card.

The stolen property included a 5,000 BTU air conditioning unit, flat screen television, safe and other miscellaneous items.

• Rhonda Smith, 100 block Big Horn Drive, reported Sunday a break-in at the residence of Harley Everett in the 100 block of Graystone Drive.

Reported stolen were a Smith & Wesson revolver, a Ruger Red Hawk pistol, a Weatherby shotgun, a bolt-action rifle with scope, a safe and its contents, a Panasonic television and a Leupold scope with a total value of $2,452.

• Billy Slocumb, 2100 block South Main Street, reported Friday the theft of property valued at $450.

• John Thompson, 700 block 11th Street Southeast, reported Friday the theft of a vehicle tag valued at $1 from a 1991 Ford F150.

• The Shell on 1607 Camilla Hwy. reported Saturday that a man pumped $46 worth of gasoline in a 2008 Audi and left without paying.

• The Susie Q’s on 135 U.S. Hwy. 319 S. reported Sunday that a man walked out of the store with a 12-pack of Bud Light beer valued at $7.

An employee told police that she told a man who came in after midnight that the store could not sell beer after that time. The suspect walked outside and returned when the employee had several customers.

One of the customers told the employee that the man had walked out with the beer. Police will review store video to try to identify the suspect.

• Brandy Walker reported Sunday the theft of her daughter’s hot pink and lime green bicycle of unknown value.

Walker told police that she lent the bicycle to a friend. The friend notified her that the bicycle was stolen by a man in the 400 block of First Avenue Southeast.

Police went to the address given by Walker for the suspect, but he was not there. An officer told Walker how she could apply for a warrant through Colquitt County Magistrate Court.

• Doyle Grantham, 5300 block Highway 133 North, reported Sunday the theft of a two-seater Sun Dolphin pond boat and trolling motor with battery with a total value of $710.

• Kevin Nelson, 400 block Perryman Road, Hartsfield, reported Saturday the theft of a Colt Single Action Army revolver, Mossburg pump shotgun and SKS Chinese rifle with folding stock with a total value of $1,800.

• Joseph Bell, 2200 block Cannon Road, reported Sunday the theft of a Remington RM4620 chain saw, Lincoln welder, Yeti cooler and Duracell Superior Life battery with a total value of $929.

• Jessica Bell, 300 block Jim Sharpe Road, Norman Park, reported Sunday $80 and insulin needles valued at $20 stolen from a 2006 Nissan Altima.

• Lawanda Lovett, 100 block Stone Bridgeway, reported that two cars and a shed were rifled through.

Criminal trespass

Stone’s, 139 Hwy. 319 S., reported Friday morning finding a painted pallet “backing the Packers” on the front door with a U.S. flag and pole stuck underneath their sign, cigarette butt cans emptied around the front, stone pavers moved and water spigots turned on.

• Officers investigating a burglar alarm at Market on the Square, 15 E. Central Ave., found a door cracked at the rear of the building.

Nothing appeared to have been taken.

• Packer Food Mart, 1409 N. Main St., reported Saturday that someone damaged a camera at the rear of the store.

Drink crates had been stacked underneath the camera, police said, and the suspect stood on them and hit the camera with a drink crate. Other cameras showed the man walking around the area and then leaving.

• Danael Hernandez, 600 block U.S. Highway 319 North, reported Friday that a residence was damaged in the 100 block of Old Sardis Church Road.

Damage include four broken windows and broken light fixtures.

• Gary Holt, 6400 block Tallokas Road, reported Friday that someone damaged a front window of a 1953 Chrysler New Yorker. He estimated repairs at $350.

• Lynn Weeks, 2100 block Ellenton- Norman Park Road, reported Friday that a neighbor’s dogs killed two milk goats valued at a total of $800.

Moultrie Police

• Charles Derryberry, 68, reported Saturday that a man on a bicycle approached him from behind and tried to rob him with a knife.

Derryberry reportedly was walking in the 300 block of 10th Street Southeast at the time.
