Congressional candidate to speak in Murray
CHATSWORTH, Ga. — Steve Foster, a Democratic candidate for Congress, is the guest speaker for the Murray County Democratic Committee meeting at the Charles “Judy” Poag Murray County Senior Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. All Democrats and those who are dissatisfied with the current representative, Tom Graves, R-Ranger, of the 14th District are invited.
Valdosta gas prices slip a bit
VALDOSTA, Ga. — The price of gasoline slipped in Lowndes County a little last week, according to statistics. The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Sunday was $2.69, down six cents from $2.75 a gallon the previous Sunday, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. The least expensive gas price reported in the city Sunday was $2.55 a gallon at a Baytree Road location, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com. Valdosta prices ranked tenth highest Sunday among the 17 Georgia fuel markets studied by AAA. Nationally, the average price of gasoline Sunday was $2.92 a gallon, down three cents from seven days earlier, while the Georgia average of $2.79 was also down three cents in the same period, according to the auto club. In Friday market action, U.S. crude slid 0.3 percent to $65.74 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, fell 0.6 percent to $76.82 per barrel in London. Wholesale gasoline stayed at $2.12 a gallon. Heating oil shed 0.7 percent to $2.16 a gallon. Natural gas fell 1.4 percent to $2.89 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Summer hours set for San Juan’s outreach programs
BRANFORD, Fla. — The San Juan Catholic Mission’s outreach programs with free clothing and food distribution will go to summer hours this week.
The Food and Clothing Distribution program is held the third Friday of each month and for the summer months will be held from 9 a.m. until noon. Those hours will remain the same for July, August and September on the third Friday of the month.
The Advent Christian Church of Beachville continues to maintain a presence at the San Juan Ministry third Friday distribution providing lunches, snacks and cool drinks.
Anyone in need of free clothing, clothing to prepare for a job interview, a bag of food or lunch is welcome to stop by.
Anyone interested in contributing to either the clothing distribution or the food pantry, can bring contributions to San Juan Mission, 304 Plant Avenue SE in Branford. Items can be left on the patio or in the Church Office during normal business hours.
