City council to vote on rezoning request

TIFTON — The Tifton City Council will be voting about an ordinance rezoning property located in downtown Tifton at the May 21 meeting.
The property, located at 101 S. Tift Avenue, would be rezoned from general business to commercial downtown, which would allow for it to be turned into apartments, as is the current plan.
The council will also consider:
• Approval of the Georgia Main Street Program agreements for 2018-2019.
• Approval of the request to change the water system disinfection from liquid chlorine to chlorine gas.
• Awarding of proposal from utility asset management for repair of drainage pipe located at 26th Street & Ridge Avenue.
• Accepting the memorandum of understanding between the city and ABAC for management of the Tift Theatre and authorize the city manager to execute the agreement.
• Awarding proposals received for banking services to Synovus, and BB&T for banking and purchase card program.
• Authorizing the transfer of landfill closure and post closure funds.
• Approval of the resolution authorizing the Tifton Fire Department to form a mutual aid resource pact with members of the Georgia Mutual Aid Group (GMAG).
• Approval of the resolution providing for an amended alcohol beverage license for Sunny Swifty located at 1355 S. Main Street.
• Approval of the resolution providing for a new alcohol license for Shell Travel Center located at 603 Old Omega Road.
There will also be a presentation of the 2018 James E. Dove Memorial Scholarship Awards.
The meeting will be held at Tifton City Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m.
