Man sentenced to five years in prison for child molestation

DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton man who was scheduled for trial last week in Superior Court on rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation and child molestation charges agreed to a plea deal prior to jury selection and was sentenced to five years in prison. He is expected to be deported upon his release.

of child molestation and was sentenced by Chief Judge William T. Boyett to 20 years on each

count with five years total to serve in prison. He was also fined $2,000, must complete 300 hours of community service and must register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. District Attorney Bert Poston said Guzman, who is in the country illegally, will likely be deported upon his release.

Guzman was arrested by the Dalton Police Department in April of 2016. An incident report from 2012 stated that two females were under the age of 10 when the reported abuse began.

Guzman was indicted on charges of rape, two counts of aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of child molestation and sexual battery against a child under 16.
