Region track title to ESMS Lady Devils

TIFTON — Eighth Street Middle School continued its track dominance Wednesday.
The Lady Devils won the region title, their 16th in the past 17 years according to head coach Billy King. Even more impressively, said King, ESMS’ girls “haven’t been beaten in four years.”
Eighth Street totaled 106 points with Pine Grove second with 77 points.
Six Lady Devils took first place at region, which was held in Valdosta.
Mercedez Simon won first in the 100 hurdles and 400 meters. Sky McRae, Tadasia Richardson, Shyanna Graham and Kaiyah Barber combined to take the 4×400. Richardson additionally was first in the 800 meters. Ainsley Toews won the 1,600.
Arlaysia Weaver, Aniya Brown, Simon and Graham were second in the 4×100. Toews was third in the 800 as were McRae in the 400 and Madison Tucker in the 1,600.
King said there were “numerous fourth and fifth place finishers.”
Hannah Walker, Gwynn Connor, Lainey Roberts, Emma Lee Daniels, D.J. Ford and Blake Chambliss competed in multiple events.
“This is an amazing group of young ladies,” said King.
Coaches are King, Chris Powell, James Golson, Fred Tucker and Jimmy Dill.
