MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County woman was in jail Wednesday in connection with the alleged abuse of a 89-year-old woman for whom she was providing home care.
Mary Calhoun, 66, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to suspected abuse of Ramona Desalvo.

The two women had been living at Calhoun’s 1108 Tallokas Point Road residence, sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Robinson said. Desalvo has been moved to a nursing home in the area.
“(Calhoun) was her caregiver,” Robinson said. “They had some home health care workers coming in to check on the situation. They started seeing injuries on the victim consistent with abuse.”
The injuries included bruising and lacerations to Desalvo, he said.
“Home health services had concerns after seeing injuries on her,” Robinson said. “They contacted elderly health services with DFCS (Georgia Division of Family and Children Services). They saw some things and decided to get us involved.”
The suspected abuse occurred over about three months, he said.
Calhoun has been charged with five felony charges — three counts of exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults and one count each false imprisonment and cruelty to a person 65 years or older — and misdemeanor counts of battery on a person 65 or older and simple battery on a person 65 or older.
