THOMASVILLE — A 3-month-old baby was pronounced dead late Monday morning after being transported from a Thomasville residence to Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Thomasville police received a call shortly after 10 a.m. Monday about an infant who was unresponsive and not breathing at 208 Henderson St., off Cassidy Road.

Family members began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), according to authorities. Police continued CPR until Thomas County Emergency Medical Service arrived and took the baby to Archbold.

A few minutes before the baby was pronounced dead, Thomasville police Capt. Maurice Holmes said, “As of right now, it appears to be a medical episode of a family member. … We’re not sure about a lot of things.”

The baby’s mother and grandmother were being evaluated at Archbold.

“This is a traumatic situation anytime it involves a child,” Holmes said.

When asked if foul play is suspected in the infant’s condition — before the child was pronounced dead — Holmes said, “That’s why we’re conducting this investigation. We don’t know. We’re going to be sure it’s not.”
