- Moultrie firefighters work to remove a person from inside a van after a two-vehicle accident around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday on Veterans Parkway at Tallokas Road. No information about this crash was available from law enforcement on Tuesday, but Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said two people died in other accidents Thursday and Sunday.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man’s death early Christmas morning came several hours after a wreck that sent another man to a Tallahassee hospital.
John Mikeal Copeland, 56, was pronounced dead at Colquitt Regional Medical Center at about 3:22 a.m. Monday, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said. It was the second fatal accident in less than a week.
The crash of the car in which Copeland and the other man were riding was reported at about 9:45 p.m. on Sunday. The car reportedly overturned in the wreck on Funston-Sigsbee Road near its intersection with Mill Pond Road.
As of Tuesday afternoon the Georgia State Patrol had no information available.
Copeland initially did not seem to be severely injured, Brock said. But a few hours later, he died.
The second man in the car was identified by the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office as Brandon Chambers. A Facebook post about Chambers said that he was in an induced coma at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, but the hospital said it had no record of a patient by that name.
On Thursday the GSP investigated a fatal collision involving a man on a Moped-type motor scooter on Tallokas Road at Cook Road.
Agency reports were incomplete, but the preliminary investigation showed that a car struck the scooter, ejecting the 60-year-old rider off it, Brock said.
William B. Smith died at the Colquitt Regional emergency room from his injuries, he said.
