THOMASVILLE — The postseason honors continue to roll in for Thomasville football.
The Bulldogs had two of its players honored on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s all-state team, which was released on Thursday, with two honorable mentions to go along with them. Thomas County Central and Cairo also had players honored.
For Thomasville, defensive back Charlie Thomas and kicker Carl Blackmore made the list of all-state players in Class AA. Both were named to Region 1-AA’s all-region team earlier this year, with Blackmore earning special teams player of the year honors. Quarterback JT Rice and defensive back Karey Lee, the region player of the year and defensive player of the year, respectively, were honorable mentions.
Central and Cairo did not have any all-state players, but still had some athletes recognized. In Class AAAAA, the Yellow Jackets’ Martavous McCray was an honorable mention, recognizing a solid senior campaign with 95 tackles and an area-leading six sacks. His performance earned him Region 1-AAAAA’s defensive player of the year award.
Cairo linebacker Tahj Vicks and offensive lineman Riley Maynard were named to Class AAAA’s honorable mentions list. Both were all-region selections this year, with Vicks totaling 113 tackles and four interceptions during his senior season. Maynard was named an all-state player for Class AAAA by Recruit Georgia earlier this month, and has been invited to participate in high school All-American games in New Orleans and Arlington, Texas.
