Gas prices slide as Christmas nears

VALDOSTA — Gas prices dipped in Lowndes County last week in the run up to Christmas, according to statistics.
The average price of a gallon of regular gas in Valdosta Sunday was $2.23, down six cents from seven days earlier, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest price reported Sunday for fuel in the city was $2.10 a gallon at two locations, one on Bemiss Road and one on North Valdosta Road, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com
The highest price reported Sunday in Valdosta was $2.14 a gallon at a North St. Augustine Road retailer, according to gasbuddy. Not all retail prices are reported to gasbuddy, which depends on volunteer reporters.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Sunday was $2.43 a gallon, down from $2.46 a week before, while Georgia’s average of $2.29 a gallon was down from $2.33 in the same period, according to the auto club.
In Friday market trading, oil futures finished mixed. Benchmark U.S. crude rose 26 cents to settle at $57.30 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, used to price international oils, fell 8 cents to close at $63.23 per barrel in London.
