Gas prices on the slide again

VALDOSTA — Gas prices in Valdosta resumed their downward spiral last week, according to statistics.

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the city Sunday was $2.35, down from $2.40 the previous Sunday, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. In the previous week, Valdosta’s fuel prices spiked upward by a dime a gallon following months of slow decline, according to the auto club.

The lowest price reported for gas in the city Sunday was $2.24 at a retailer on U.S. 84, while the highest was $2.94 at a store on North Patterson Street, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.

Nationwide, the average price for gasoline Sunday as $2.54, down a penny from seven days earlier, while Georgia’s average of $2.39 was down by two cents in the same period, gasbuddy.com reported.

In Friday market action, benchmark U.S. crude rose $1.41, or 2.6 percent, to $56.55 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, gained $1.36, or 2.2 percent, to $62.72 a barrel in London.
