Thomasville High School will host the inaugural community-wide My School Color Run on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. to raise money to benefit the school’s positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) program.
The PBIS goals include thinking of ways to promote good behavior in the school system.
Dean of Students Stacey Reese said with PBIS, her faculty and staff choose to be proactive rather than reactive and more positive and bring positive activities to the school and community.
“Doing something such as a color run will bring the community together.” said Reese.
The run will take place down Washington Street, right in the heart of Thomasville and alongside the campuses of three city schools.
The My School Color Run is an untimed 5k run/walk/jog that is open to all ages and fitness abilities. While on the course participants will be doused with colorful powder when they pass through the color zones. Pre-registered participants will receive a color packet that will be thrown in the air at the finish line.
“It is open to all to walk, to run, to push a stroller, or to just come out and have fun,” Reese said.
Organizers, Reese added, wanted to engage the entire student body in a fitness initiative that aims to encourage a lifelong healthy way of living rather than sell goods to raise funds.
Race will start at the intersection of Jefferson and Crawford streets.
Participants may sign up for the run by visiting www.ThomasvilleMSCR.eventbrite.com. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and race-day registration also is available.
