THOMASVILLE — Jerger Elementary School celebrated veterans Friday morning in style — with musical numbers.
Jerger students performed a tribute to the armed services, with first through fifth graders paying tribute to each branch of the military. Pre-k students performed “See the Veteran,” and kindergartners performed “Yankee Doodle.”
Capt. Gary Pitts, retired from the U.S. Marines Corps, spoke to the youngsters, veterans, and other attendees. Pitts spoke about Nov. 10 being the Marine Corps’ birthday and gave background on the many nicknames the Marines have.
Pitts said he was “very grateful” to all veterans present for willing to serve and protect the United States.
“We should all be thankful to all our veterans, especially those that paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Pitts said.
Jerger Principal Lawana Rayburn closed out the program by reading the names of veterans from the “Jerger family.”
