MOULTRIE, Ga. — A fifth person has been charged in a burglary at a Moultrie pawn business in which thieves took advantage of conditions in the wake of Tropical Storm Irma to steal a number of weapons.
Police arrested Perice Edwards on Tuesday after making four arrests less than a week after the Sept. 12 burglary of American Pawn on First Avenue Southeast.
The burglars used the conditions in the wake of the storm when power was off in much of the city to help them carry out the theft without being discovered, police said.
To gain entry to the pawn store, the burglars made a hole in the wall of the business, clambered up an inside wall and came down inside the store from the ceiling, according to Moultrie police.
Sgt. Justin Lindsay, an investigator with the Moultrie Police Department, declined to say how Edwards was linked to the crime but said that his is the last arrest expected in the burglary in which a number of guns were stolen.
All but two of the weapons have been recovered, Lindsay said.
Edwards, 19, of 10th Street Southwest, has been charged with one count of burglary.
Those previously charged were:
• Khalife Moore, Quandarious Ballard and Jaquarious Taylor, all 20, who face counts of burglary, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
• And Jelani Taylor, 25, charged with burglary and three counts theft by receiving stolen property.
When the investigation led to Moore’s 207 Eighth St. S.W. residence, officers found suspected marijuana and prescription Xanax pills on the porch, police said. The marijuana was packaged for sale.
Police had gone to the residence based on information that some of the stolen weapons were at that location.
