Pines & Palms slates plantation art fundraiser

THOMASVILLE — Plantation Trace En Plein Air, a fundraising event for Pines & Palms, a new Thomasville art association, will feature plantation and other local artwork.

Howell Ferguson and Sharon Maxwell-Ferguson (Boxhall), Kathy Vignos, (Milestone), Tali Crozer (Mayhaw) and Bernie and Kathy Lanigan (New Hope) are helping launch Pines & Palms’ programs new art programs.

The opportunity to see the estates is limited to those who register for the Plantation Trace events.

On Friday morning, Oct. 6, participants will master demonstrate portrait painting at Boxhall, and in the afternoon the artists will demonstrate landscape paintings on Milestone Plantation. Admission to each event is $75.

Mayhaw Plantation will be open on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Grounds feature ponds, cabins, horses and farm buildings. Artists can paint in small groups with the masters. The cost is $125 and includes lunch.

To close out the week on Saturday, there will be a grand sale at the Center for the Arts main building at 600 E. Washington St. The event is open to the public at no charge from 6 to 8 p.m. to see and buy artwork artists painted during the week. Appetizers and drinks will be served to guests.

The paintings will promote the beauty of this area. The 20 participating professional artists are coming in from as far away as Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sarasota, Florida, to paint local historic buildings downtown, rural Southern fields and plantations.
