THOMASVILLE — Narcotics, instead of the morning burst of energy, were found in a coffee can in a recent drug arrest, according to authorities.

Marijuana was found in a coffee can, tucked away in a children’s backpack in the trunk of a car, according to Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander.

Schofill said the drug squad received information Anthony James McCoy, 709 E. Walcot St., was selling drugs at his residence.

Surveillance was set up at Mccoy’s residence, along with narcotics agents securing a search warrant.

“As we entered the house, we noticed an odor of marijuana,” Schofill said.

A small amount of marijuana was found in the residence.

A car, Schofill said, also was searched. Prior to the search, agents asked McCoy if he had keys to the car.

The suspect denied having the keys. Keys to the vehicle were recovered after searching McCoy.

More marijuana and drug paraphernalia were recovered after searching the car.

“The marijuana was packaged for sale and he had digital scales in there,” the narcotics commander said.

McCoy was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
