“Pertaining to the allegations of child neglect and abuse regarding Suwannee Elementary School teacher Veronica Daquila, the Suwannee County School District’s internal investigation did not reveal evidence to support the original complaint,” Superintendent Ted Roush said. “We look forward to a productive year for Veronica Daquila and Suwannee Elementary School.”

Daquila has been with the school district for more than 30 years and she returned Sept. 20 to her previous position of reading resource teacher.

Beth Butler said on Tuesday, Aug. 22, her child’s teacher refused to allow her son to go to the bathroom.

Butler said her son asked to go to the bathroom and was told no.

She added that after a second request was denied, her son urinated himself.

The teacher made the child stay in the soiled seat until she returned from recess, Butler said.

Butler added that after going to the office to call home for fresh clothing, her child also had to remain in the classroom alone while the teacher picked up the class from lunch.

The child is no longer enrolled in school in Suwannee County.

Butler said she has filed verbal and written complaints about the Suwannee County School District to the Florida Department of Education and Code of Ethics.

“I am not letting this go,” Butler said. “It is not going to be brushed under the bus.”

Butler said Suwannee County needs to know that that teacher is back in the classroom.

“I have an attorney and I am going to do what I have to do,” Butler said.

Butler said she wanted this issue resolved.

“I will take whatever actions I need to take for what’s right,” Butler said. “If my son has to be the freaking face of it and he has to be the name of it then #JusticeforBraxton because this is flipping wrong.”

The State’s Attorney Office is investigating the allegations and expects to have a formal decision on any potential charges within a few days.

Roush said the district is confident Daquila will not be charged with any crime.
