What a man sows, he shall reap

One of the best known verses of Scripture is in the sixth chapter of Galatians: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” This ancient admonition is simple and direct and there is no margin for error in interpretation.

The validity of this action has been proven over and over again. Parents who plant the seeds of permissiveness and tolerance in the minds of their children regarding their behavior will reap the harvest of broken laws and ruined lives. If we sow in the minds of little ones the attitude of expecting privilege without responsibility and plenty without payment, we will reap the dubious reward of ingratitude and instability in the response of young adults.

The same law holds true in every area of life. I believe this is the reason for our harvest of turmoil and tension on many of the college and university campuses of our land. The trustees and alumni of our institutions of learning have prided themselves on the practice of allowing absolute “freedom” to administrations and faculties in the dissemination of political and philosophical “garbage” to the students. Some so-called “intellectuals” who sit in ivory towers and lead students like a Judas-goat leading the sheep to the slaughter delight in seeing the poison they propagate take its deadening effect in the lives of radicals. They actually defend the students’ right to take up arms and take over the campus. Often the ousted administration meekly acquits the actions of dissident and rebellious students.

All this is but an example of the unerring law of the harvest. Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he reap.
