Brookwood, Thomasville softball get region wins

Brookwood 4, Southland Academy 3
The Warriors gained some more region footing with a home win against Southland on Thursday. Brookwood overcame an early 2-0 hole starting in the fourth inning when Ann Murray Jackson scored to cut the score to 2-1.
As Brookwood’s ace, Landry Joyner did her part in the circle, but also helped her cause in a big way. With two on base with two outs in the fifth, Joyner hit a home run to score three runs and give her team a lead it never gave up.
The win improved Brookwood’s record to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in GISA Region 3-3A.
Thomasville 6, Brooks County 3
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start against the Trojans and survived a late attempt at a comeback. Thomasville scored all six of its runs in the game’s first three innings. Brooks threatened in the top of the seventh with three runs.
Mallory Fletcher, Elli Stone, Allyson Mirick and Jordan Williams each totaled two hits. Stone, Mirick and Williams drove in one run apiece. Malorie Turnbull pitched all seven innings for Thomasville and earned the win.
The Bulldogs now stand at 7-8 overall and 4-2 in Region 1-2A, good enough for second place.
