A long-time volunteer with the Special Olympics has recently been recognized for her dedicated service.
Thomasville’s Elizabeth Elzy was presented with the Spirit of Special Olympics Georgia Award at a recent ceremony in Warner Robins. Elzy has been involved with Special Olympics as a volunteer for over 35 years. She previously served as an area director over several South Georgia counties. She trained quality volunteers and coaches, kept track of accreditation due dates, and is still very active in volunteering with the Thomas County Special Olympics program. She has brought awareness to the community and has helped give Special Olympics the attention that it deserves in South Georgia.
The Distinguished Service Awards are the most prestigious awards given by the Special Olympics of Georgia. They honor outstanding volunteers in the SOGA community. The Spirit of Special Olympics Georgia Award is given to the individual volunteer who, through his or her long-term commitment to SOGA, best exemplifies the dedication and unselfish efforts associated with the true spirit of Special Olympics.
