• 12:30 p.m. The descendants of David Pembleton Bass and Amanda Frances Wynn Bass will hold their annual reunion on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the home of Joyce Riggs, 9249 Ga. Hwy. 202, Thomasville, GA 31757. Attendees should bring their favorite covered dishes.

Tuesday

• 10:30 a.m. — The monthly meeting of the NARFE group will be held at the Thomas County Public Library.

• 6 p.m. — Overeaters Anonymous meets at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in the Guild Room. There are no dues or fees and is open to men and women. Everyone who wants to stop eating compulsively is welcome. Call 226-0556 or 221-1202.

• 12:15 p.m. — The Thomasville Rotary Club meets at the Plaza.

• 5:45 p.m. — Early bird Bingo games, sponsored by the Kouncil Club of Thomasville, are at St. Augustine Catholic Church social hall. Regular Bingo sessions begin at 6:45. Prizes awarded and proceeds go to local charities of southwest Georgia.

• 6 p.m. — The Thomasville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. is holding its Fall Kappa Leaguers Interest meeting at Marguerite Neel Williams Boys and Girls Club. • Ochlocknee City Council members will hold their regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m., Sept. 18 at Ochlocknee City Hall.

• Relatives of the late James Henry Hagan Sr. and Hattie Gandy Hagan are holding their annual Hagan reunion at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 with a covered dish lunch. The event will be held at the Barwick Community House. For information, call (229) 200-4713.

• The City of Cairo Fire Department and Woodmen Life Chapter 580 members are holding a 9-11 memorial service at 10 a.m., Sept. 11 at the fire department. The event is open to the community.

• South Georgia Genealogy Society meets at 10:30 a.m., Saturday Sept. 9 in the Flipper Room at the Thomas County Public Library. The program, Using Historical Newspapers to add Information to our Family Histories: a Webinar, follows at 11. The meeting is open to the public.

• Members of the Thomasville High School class of 1974 are holding a class reunion meeting at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 at Everett-Milton YMCA. For information, call (229) 221-1971.

• Join teachers, students and parents to learn more about dyslexia and how it impacts the region. The International Dyslexia Association (IDA), in partnership with the Dyslexia Network of Southwest Georgia, will present the documentary “The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia.” The documentary is an award-winning view of the disorder, including Sundance Film Festival and American Film Showcase awards. Jennifer Hasser and Karen Huppertz of the IDA will give an overview of the disorder and answer questions from the audience. The event will be held at the Thomas County Professional Learning Center (Thomas County Board of Education campus) on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

• The regular monthly board meeting of Thomas County Department of Family and Children Services is at 8:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at 460 Smith Ave.

• Oak Street Group of Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Parish Hall at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 515 Oak St.

• The Thomas County Republican Party meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at noon at Granddaddy’s Barbecue on Smith Avenue.

• The Thomas County Democratic Party meets at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month in the Thomas County Library’s Flipper Room. The meeting is open to the public.

• The Parents Advocacy meeting will be held on Mondays, 6 p.m., at the Frederick Douglass Complex Library. All who have a vested interest in the Thomasville City Schools system and taxpayers are encouraged to attend.

• The Thomasville Aviation Museum’s “Power of the Past” exhibit, featuring antique air-craft engines, is open each Sunday from 1-6 p.m. at the Thomasville Regional Airport. Appointments can be made by calling 226-3010. There is no admission charge.

• The Rose City Aeromodelers group has contracted with the City of Thomasville to supervise a model airport at the Thomasville Municipal Airport and a chartered club under the auspices of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. It promotes and assists members in learning to fly radio-controlled model aircraft and will hold monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Call 221-7589.

• The Country Hoedown is at the corner of Sapp and Burnum (Mt. Olive Road), in Pelham every Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. There is live country music for line and couple dancing with no door charge, but donations are welcome. For information, call 683-3496 or 294-4451.

• The Thomasville Multiple Sclerosis self-help group meets at 6 p.m., the third Tuesday of every month at the Plaza. The meeting is to bring area people together to discuss their issues in coping with the disease and the organization. Family members and caregivers can attend. • The Thomasville Noon Lions Club meets at noon the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Plaza.

• VFW Post 4995 and its auxiliary meet every third Saturday at 9 a.m. at the post home at 1296 Old Cassidy Road.

• VFW Post 8433 meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Roddenbery Memorial Library Annex in Cairo.

• Hands and Hearts for Horses, a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with disabilities, is in need of volunteers. Volunteer training classes are held the first Monday of every month. For information, call Kirsten at 551-0086.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Monday for big book study, beginners meetings are held at 8 p.m., Tuesday and 8 p.m., Saturday is open discussion all at Trinity Anglican Church on West Jackson Street. • Thomasville Al-Anon, a support group for families and friends of problem drinkers, meets at 8 p.m. on Mondays at Trinity Anglican Church, 325 W. Jackson St.

• Grace Group of Alcoholics Anonymous meets at noon, Mondays for open discussion meetings. On Wednesdays at noon, are closed big book meetings. At 7 p.m., Wednesdays are men’s open meetings. At noon, Thursdays are ladies open meetings. At noon, Fridays are open discussion meetings. At 7 p.m., Fridays are open big book meetings.
