THOMASVILLE —Thomasville and Thomas County residents with accumulated, unwanted tires will have a chance to dispose of them at no cost during the three-day summer tire amnesty event Aug. 11-13.
Thomas County Solid Waste, Thomas County Code Enforcement, City of Thomasville Solid Waste and Keep Thomas County Beautiful will join forces for the effort.
Scrap tires present environmental health and safety hazards, officials said. Rainwater accumulates in the tires, and creates an ideal environment for mosquitoes, which are known to transmit diseases.
Tires from residents only will be accepted. Tires from commercial businesses or vendors will not be accepted.
Tires may be dropped off at the following trash collection sites:
• Hansell Road
• Stewart Road
• Woodruff Road
• Highways 188 and 202
• U.S. 84 East (Boston)
• Dillon Road
• Patten-Coolidge Road
• City of Thomasville site — Behind EMS/fire station off Remington Avenue at recycling center
• Only eight tires per household
• Open to Thomasville, Thomas County and all municipality residents
• Bike, car and light truck tires only
• Tires must be derimmed, clean and dry
