At 4 a.m. Sunday, Thomasville police responded to a verbal and physical altercation that spilled out into the parking lot at the motel. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana in the room.
The male suspect, Anthony Roan, 33, 506 Grady St., told police he had a bag of weed in his pocket, Louis Schofill, narcotics/vice commander, said.
As an officer was about to arrest Roan, he fled on foot and was chased across U.S. 19 by several officers. The bag of marijuana was dropped during the chase.
After Roan fled, officers returned to the motel room to talk to the woman, Angelina Coston, 24, 1325 Warner St., Apartment B2, and recovered a stolen firearm from her purse. Schofill said the weapon was reported stolen in Thomasville from a vehicle.
“They found the marijuana in a trash can next to the room,” the commander explained.
Schofill said a shaving kit in the trash can at the motel contained more than four ounces of powder cocaine, more than an ounce of molly packaged in small plastic bags and ecstasy pills.
