VALDOSTA – A juvenile has been taken into custody after a stabbing in an apartment complex on East Park Avenue.
Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Park Avenue at 5:17 p.m. July 25 in reference to a subject that had been stabbed, authorities said.
The call was placed by on-duty Valdosta firefighters at Fire Station 2 on East Park Avenue, after the victim walked into the station to ask for help. Firefighters provided first aid while calling for police and EMS assistance, reports stated.
Police said the victim stated he had been stabbed at the East Park Avenue apartment complex after a dispute with a male subject. The authorities said the victim told them the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation ending with the juvenile suspect stabbing the victim in the upper torso with a kitchen knife.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition Wednesday morning, according to Valdosta Police Lt. Adam Bembry.
After a search of the area and based on information gathered in the investigation, the juvenile was located and taken into custody.
The juvenile is being charged with felony aggravated assault and felony possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. The case has been turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice, reports stated.
“The assistance to the Valdosta Police Department and the first aid provided to the victim by the Valdosta Fire Department cannot be understated. Had the victim not received immediate and skilled first aid from Fire Fighters, his life may have been in serious jeopardy,” Bembry said.
