Allied Arts to host oil painting workshop
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Allied Arts welcomes oil painter Alisa Koch to Milledgeville to teach a six-hour workshop on oil paint landscapes Sept. 23. Painters of all skill levels and mediums are welcome at this class, and participants will learn how to see and understand a landscape in terms of shape and color. Participants will learn to mix oil colors from a limited palette and achieve an immense variety of language from the basic colors. The registration fee for this six-hour workshop is $125. All supplies are included for the workshop. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch. The workshop will take place in Allen’s Market, 101 E. Passport fair to be held in Chatsworth
CHATSWORTH, Ga. — The Chatsworth Post Office at 120 W. Fort St. hosts a passport fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary. The fair serves customers on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers have the option of applying for a passport book (good for all international travel) or the passport card (good only for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda). Gas prices increase
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Gasoline prices increased last week for the second week in a row, following state and national trends, according to statistics. The average price for a gallon of regular automotive fuel Sunday in the city was $2.09, up four cents from seven days earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. The cheapest gas reported in the city Sunday was $1.96 a gallon at a location on North Oak Street, while the most expensive was $2.79 at a store on North Patterson Street, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com. Only seven Valdosta retailers were on record as having fuel for less than $2 a gallon Sunday, as opposed to 26 the previous week. Nationally, the average fuel price was $2.28 Sunday, up from $2.25 the previous week, while Georgia’s average of $2.18 was also up three cents in the same period, according to the auto club. In Friday market action, the price of U.S. crude oil fell 2.5 percent and pulled energy stocks lower. Wholesale gasoline fell 4 cents to $1.56 a gallon. Heating oil lost 3 cents to $1.52 a gallon. Natural gas slid 7 cents to $2.97 per 1,000 cubic feet. Benchmark U.S. crude lost $1.15 to $45.77 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, the standard for international oil prices, shed $1.24, or 2.5 percent, to $48.06 a barrel in London.
