Car fleeing police hits pedestrian

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A man who fled from police — throwing a gun out of the car and striking a pedestrian during the pursuit — has been identified through further investigation after the officer halted the chase.
The officer attempted to stop a 2000 Toyota 4Runner at about 9:16 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of West Central Avenue and Sixth Street Northwest because of the excessive volume of music coming from the car, Moultrie Police Department reports said.
When the officer tried to initiate the stop, the driver of the maroon Toyota turned into a convenience store parking lot and then exited the parking lot onto Sixth Street Southwest.
A short time later the officer saw the driver throw a silver revolver out the window, police said. The officer observed the car moving at high speed and running stop signs, and at one point struck a female who was crossing the street.
At one point the officer was able to get close enough to get the tag number and pull alongside and get a look at the driver, police said, and at that time halted the pursuit.
The tag indicated that the Toyota belongs to a Moultrie woman. However, the officer learned that a man previously had received a traffic citation in the car, police said. The officer viewed a photo of that man and recognized him as the driver he had seen.
No additional information was available about the pedestrian. Moultrie police did not work any traffic accidents involving a pedestrian over the weekend.
The driver had not been arrested as of noon on Monday.
