Commissioner Keith Moye, who serves District 3, said he has received numerous calls regarding the solid waste collection sites, both in favor and against the consolidation.

“I’ve had people call in both directions,” he said.

Commissioner T.D.David, who along with Moye was tasked with finding a solution to county’s solid waste program, stressed the importance of public input during the process.

The 20th Street collection site is set to reopen on July 10 following completed road work. Following the reopening, three collection sites are set to close permanently.

Sites to close include:

• Singletary Road

• Pine Park Road at Bell Crossing

• Pine Park Road at Highway 84.

The 20th Street collection site is set to serve as the experiment for site consolidation. The commissioners have discussed consolidating the county’s 42 collection sites into six-to-seven “super sites.”

The 42 collection sites have a total of 254 dumpsters.
