THOMASVILLE — The City of Roses is fired up about Independence Day.
A fireworks show also is scheduled in Cairo.
Thomasville’s annual festivities begin July 4 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
Free family activities and a live concert featuring the Mike Veal Band will take place at the new Thomasville Park and Amphitheater, 131 S. Stevens St.
For close to two decades, CNS, the City of Thomasville’s cable network, has sponsored Thomasville’s July 4 festivities and fireworks.
Sheryl Sealy, city marketing director, said July 4 events are a way the city can express gratitude to CNS customers.
She said the city takes pride in investing in events, such as the Independence Day observance, to provide a fun-filled holiday for citizens.
This year’s July 4 celebration also offers face-painting, arts and crafts led by Pottery Frenzy and You’re Maker and Smallcakes cupcake-decorating.
Local veterans groups and a variety of food vendors will be at the site.
Before the large fireworks display, which begins at 9:30 p.m., The Kings Voices a cappella group will perform a special rendition of the National Anthem.
Free bottles of water, while supplies last, will be provided by Archbold Memorial Hospital’s Live Better Program.
Trinity Anglican Church will partner with the city to provide free treats, games and cooling-off stations for those attending the events.
“Our goal is to provide a fun, family event that everyone from all age groups can enjoy,” Sealy said.
Cairo’s July 4 celebration will begin between 9 and 9:15 p.m. on Independence Day at West Thomas Stadium at Cairo High School.
The event is sponsored by the City of Cairo and Grady County governments.
