Gas under $2 a gallon in Valdosta again

VALDOSTA, Ga. — For the first time in months, gasoline was available for under $2 a gallon in Valdosta over the weekend as fuel prices fell across the board.
The lowest price for a gallon of regular fuel reported in the city Sunday was $1.98 at a store on U.S. 84 west of I-75, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com. Two more retailers in the city were also offering gasoline for under $2 a gallon, gasbuddy said.
Other retailers were seen advertising fuel for under $2 a gallon, but only for drivers who were part of a fuel company’s promotional program.
The average price for fuel in Valdosta Sunday was $2.10 a gallon, down six cents from seven days earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
Nationally, the average price of fuel Sunday was $2.30, down from $2.33 a week earlier, while Georgia’s average price of $2.16 was down three cents in the same period, the auto club said.
In Friday market action, benchmark U.S. crude rose 28 cents to $44.74 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, climbed 45 cents, or 1 percent, to $47.37 a barrel in London. Occidental Petroleum jumped $2.43, or 4.1 percent, to $61.83 and Chevron gained $2.02, or 1.9 percent, to $108.35.
