A big pat on the back for United Way and its campaign

We have been remiss in offering a round of applause for the United Way of Thomas County and another successful campaign.

The United Way reached and surpassed its goal of $228,000 for the fiscal year. In fact, each year since 2002, the local United Way has met its campaign goal.

The money raised for the United Way is done locally, through contributions large and small, from businesses and individuals. And the money raised in Thomas County for the United Way stays in Thomas County.

The campaign allows the United Way to disburse funds to its 18 member agencies, all of whom touch the community in their own way, from Special Olympics to Hands On Thomas County to the Thomas County Food Bank and Resource Center to the Red Cross, the YMCA and the Boy and Girl Scouts. The United Way-supported agencies run the gamut of services and address needs across the spectrum in the community. For some, their allocation from the United Way is the organization’s lifeblood.

As much credit and praise goes to the United Way of Thomas County, it also should go to those who support it and help make it an integral part of community life.

The old motto of the United Way is “Thanks to you, it works for all of us.”

It was true then and it remains true.

The United Way’s support of its agencies could not continue without the backing of the companies, organizations and individuals who generously give to the United Way.
