U-R update

Authorities in search of two escaped Baldwin State prisoners who killed two officers aboard a prison transport bus in Putnam County have recovered the car the inmates used as part of their getaway.

The car, a 2004 green Honda Civic, was found in a wooded area in Morgan County Wednesday afternoon.

The escapees commandeered the Honda belonging to a Greene County man, Phillip Beasley, who pulled up behind the prison transport bus because he thought it had broken down between Long Shoals Road and Texas Chapel Road along Georgia Route 16 in Putnam County.

Beasley was not harmed.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, who is leading the investigation to find the escaped inmates, would not elaborate or provide additional details on the vehicle.

The two inmates are now believed by authorities to have stolen a white 2008 Ford F-250 pickup rock from a rock quarry about 8 miles east of Madison sometime

between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. this morning.
