Police investigate Valdosta shooting

VALDOSTA – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday, according to a Valdosta Police Department press release.
At 1:40 p.m., officers responded to South Georgia Medical Center where they’ met with a man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his upper arm.
The man said he had been driving in the 200 block of Summerlin Street when two unknown males asked him for a ride and, as they opened the passenger door of the vehicle, one of them produced a firearm and demanded money, reports stated.
The victim said he gave an undisclosed amount of money to the men, who then demanded more money. A struggle followed, resulting in the firearm discharging and shooting the victim in the arm. He then drove to a relative’s house, who gave him a ride to the hospital.
He is currently in good condition.
“At this point, there are inconsistencies in the information provided by the victim. As a result, the Investigative Bureau is still investigating other motives in this case,” VPD Cmdr. Leslie Manahan said.
