“On Thursday, May 25, 2017, about 4:30 p.m., agents with the GBI and Moultrie Police Department arrested Thomas Lee Tyler, aka ‘Squeeze,’ for the murder of Shvensky Collins,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday morning in a news release.

Tyler is accused of fatally shooting Collins, known as “Tadpole,” some time after midnight on May 8 near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Seventh Street Southwest, authorities said.

He was pronounced dead at 12:42 a.m. at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock told The Observer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is heading up the probe with the Moultrie Police Department, is still working to determine a motive, said Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the agency’s Thomasville office.

“We have some (information),” he said.

Tyler has previous felony convictions for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act and twice for possession of cocaine, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections, but did not have a criminal history of violence. He has been imprisoned for a total of about three years between 2000 and 2012, most recently from February 2010-January 2012.

“The investigation is currently in progress and will continue as agents and Moultrie police continue identifying and interviewing witnesses,” Steinberg said in a Friday news release.

Steinberg asked that anyone with information call the GBI at (229) 225-4090, or the Moultrie Police Department at (229) 985-3131.

Collins was gunned down in the vicinity of Tyler’s 621 Fourth Ave. S.W. residence. The GBI did not give a motive for the shooting.

It was the third fatal shooting in the county for the year.

Dewayne Williams Jr., 28, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Feb. 5 at a Moultrie nightclub.

Williams reportedly had a confrontation with another man outside of the 50 Yard Line, 300 Second St. N.E., and was shot multiple times.

There have been no arrests made in that shooting, and the GBI said at the time that its initial investigation indicated that it may have been a case of self-defense. The District Attorney’s Office is still reviewing that case.

On Feb. 4, a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy answering a domestic violence call fatally shot 19-year-old Peter Torres outside of his residence in the 100 block of Blackberry Lane.

Police said that Torres charged Patrol Officer Joshua Luke and refused commands to halt. Torres died at a Macon hospital 12 days after the shooting.

That case file has been turned over to the Colquitt County District Attorney’s Office for review, Steinberg said.

“We are waiting on their decision as to what happens next, i.e. presented to a Grand Jury, etc.,” he said in an email response on Friday.
