THOMASVILLE — Shots were fired at an occupied house while residents slept and at a nearby city intersection during predawn hours Wednesday, police said, and officers recovered projectiles at both sites.

A man and woman were asleep shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday when shots were fired at their home in the 200 block of Hadley Street. The man reported his house had been “shot up,” a Thomasville Police Department incident report shows.

About the same time, shots were fired at Hadley’s intersection with Broadnax Street.

No one was injured in the incident, although some projectiles penetrated exterior walls of the house.

“I’m trying to identify passersby in vehicles during the time of the shooting,” police Sgt. Toby Knifer said.

Knifer, TPD Criminal Investigations Division assistant commander, said police have no leads on who might be involved in the shootings. Neither do they know why the Hadley Street residence was targeted.

However, evidence gathered at the scene suggests a male relative of one of the house’s occupants was involved in a previous altercation that might have made him the intended target.

“It’s a random house as far as any evidence police have right now,” Knifer said.

The incident is being investigated as an aggravated assault.

“We believe this is an isolated incident involving particular victims,” Knifer said.
