THOMASVILLE — Thomasville City Council on Monday authorized receipt of two low-interest environmental loans to fund projects.

Council members approved a resolution authorizing receipt of a $1.5 million Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) loan for installing a gravity sewer main, demolishing an existing pump station and abandoning a force main at a lift station under the CSX rail yard.

The project is expected to be completed by August 2018.

The second authorization of receipt is for a $1.25 million GEFA loan for replacement of a water main on South Pinetree Boulevard from West Jackson Street to Magnolia Drive.

December 2018 is the expected completion date of the project.

Both loans have an interest rate of 0.89 percent.

In other business Monday, the council approved a beer and wine consumption license for Bloch Piano and Music Center at 200 W. Jackson St.

“We’re trying to get something going so we can get more traffic in the store,” license applicant Craig Bloch told the council.

Bloch also must obtain a state beer and wine consumption license.
