Valdosta’s gas prices unchanged

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Gas prices in Lowndes County remained largely unchanged over the past week, according to statistics.

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Valdosta Sunday was $2.16, the same as a week earlier, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The lowest price for a gallon of gas in the city Sunday was $2.03 at a West Hill Avenue retailer, while the highest was $2.59 at a North Patterson Street store which, in recent weeks, had been selling fuel in the $2.70 range, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.

Continuing a months-long trend, no retailer in the county was listed as selling fuel for under $2 a gallon, according to gasbuddy.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline was $2.36 a gallon Sunday, up two cents from the week before, while Georgia’s average of $2.19 a gallon was unchanged over the same period, the auto club said.

In market trading, energy futures closed higher Friday. Benchmark U.S. crude oil gained 98 cents, or 2 percent, to close at $50.33 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, rose $1.10, or 2.1 percent, to settle at $53.61 a barrel in London. In other futures trading, natural gas added 7 cents to $3.26 per 1,000 cubic feet. Wholesale gasoline gained 5 cents to $1.65 per gallon. Heating oil rose 4 cents to $1.58 per gallon.
