MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man escaped with apparently minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when the tractor he was driving broke in two after being struck from behind.

Nathaniel Pace, of the 700 block of First Avenue Northeast, was driving a 2014 John Deere tractor south on Veterans Parkway North at 5:19 p.m. when the collision occurred, according to Moultrie police.

Reginald Leon Lively of Cordele told police that his sandal became stuck on the gas pedal, causing him to crash into the tractor, which is owned by Lasseter Tractor Co., Moultrie Police Department reports said. The 2000 Buick LeSabre he was driving had extensive damage to the front end.

“The tractor was on its side and broken in half,” the reports said.

Two witnesses told police that the driver of the Buick never slowed down or attempted to stop prior to the crash.

Police said that Pace was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, while Lively, who complained of a neck injury refused to go to the emergency room.

A hospital spokeswoman Wednesday said that no information on Pace’s condition was available.

An employee at Lasseter Tractor said Wednesday that Pace was discharged and sent home on Tuesday night. Pace washes tractors for the company, the employee said.

Lively was charged with following too closely, police said.
