Gas prices slip slightly in Valdosta

VALDOSTA — The average price of gasoline slipped just a touch during the last week, statistics show.

The average price for a gallon of regular fuel in the city Sunday was $2.28, down a penny from seven days earlier, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The lowest price for gasoline in Valdosta Sunday was $2.17 at a convenience store on  U.S. 84 west of Interstate 75, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com. The highest price in the city Sunday was $2.79 at a North Patterson Street location, gasbuddy said.

No retailers were listed on gasbuddy as offering fuel for less than $2 a gallon in Lowndes County Sunday, continuing a months-long trend.

Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline Sunday was $2.42, up a cent from the previous week, while Georgia’s average of $2.29 was down a penny in the same time frame, the auto club said.

In Friday market trading, benchmark U.S. crude shed $1.09, or 2.1 percent, to $49.62 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, fell $1.03, or 1.9 percent, to $51.96 a barrel in London.
