Health fair

Eastside Baptist Church, 404 5th St. NE, Cairo is holding a free health fair from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday April 22. Participating is Blood One, Grady Count Health Department, Grady General Hospital, American Cancer Society, 1st Option, Woodleaf Assisted Living, Magnolia Place, Hospice Of Southwest Georgia, South Georgia Spine Center, Cox Funeral Home, Rose City Health & Rehab, Migrant Workers Farm Work Clinic, attorney Dale Davidson, Full Circle Counseling Center, Home Convalescent Care and the bloodmobile. If attendees want to donate blood, sign up by calling (229) 377-4154. There will be giveaways and gift drawings.

Women’s Day

Faith Temple Church, 231 Legion Blvd., is holding its annual Women’s Day at 3 p.m., Sunday May 21. Stephanie Goins from New Visions Church is the guest speaker.  

Calvary Baptist plans homecoming

Members of Calvary Baptist Church will have their annual homecoming service at 11 a.m., Sunday. The guest speaker for the morning worship service will be Bro. Chris Hammock. Everyone is invited to bring their favorite covered dish and join the church for lunch to be served on the grounds following the morning service.

 

GGH Auxiliary to sponsor book sale

The company formerly known as “Books are Fun” has changed their name to “Collective Goods” and they will be having a sale at Grady General Hospital on Monday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, April 25 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hospital conference room. The sale will consist of books and lot of other great gifts for book lovers and is sponsored by the Grady General Hospital Auxiliary. They will accept case, checks, MC, Amex, Discover and post dated checks up to 28 days.

 

Health department offers free services to women

The Southwest Health District is offering a program to women ages 40 to 64 who reside in Georgia that is aimed at reducing cases of breast and cervical cancer. The Grady County Health Department is participating in this program which will provide free great and cervical cancer screening, diagnostic testing and referral for treatment as medically indicated to uninsured or under-insured women with limited income in Georgia. There is no charge for the services for women enrolled in the BCCP program. For more information, contact the Grady County Health Department.

 

Lake Seminole Festival coming 

The Seminole County Middle/High School Band will be sponsoring the Lake Seminole Hawg Wild Bass Tournament on Saturday, April 22 at the Lake Seminole Festival. This event has something for everyone and begins with the Hawg Wild Bass Tournament. The festival itself, which includes music, food, fishing and more is a one-day event, but the all new Hawg Wild Bass tournament is a two-day, four-quarter, tournament that is open to everyone. In this tournament, 24 gifted (or lucky) teams will win huge cash prizes, five quarterly places, each place ranging from $300 to $1,000, plus, the overall winning team will take home a check for $10,000. Free health screenings available 

The Angels of Grace Community Wellness Center of Cairo is offering free health screenings to residents of Grady County and the surrounding areas. If you would like your cholesterol level or blood pressure checked, you can have these and several other screening performed for free. For more information, call Dr. Mary Weaver at 397-9355.

Whigham FFA plant sale ends Saturday

Whigham School FFA members will continue their plant sale at the greenhouse on campus this week. The greenhouse is open from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Saturday. They have a large variety of plants for sale including bedding plants, vegetable plants, hanging baskets and mosquito repellant plants.
