MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A Baldwin County grand jury has returned a six-count criminal indictment against a 20-year-old Milledgeville man involving the sexual assault of a young woman back in late February.
Although the attack and other crimes happened on the campus of Georgia College, neither the victim nor the man authorities arrested in the case are students.
The multi-count indictment was recently returned against Jarvis Javion Lawrence, of East Camden Street, according to records filed in the Baldwin County Superior Court Clerk’s Office.
Lawrence was indicted on the following charges, court records show: rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Stephen A. Bradley presented the case involving Lawrence to grand jurors. Officer Maya Woodall of the Georgia College Public Safety Department arrested Lawrence with assistance from other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
The sexual assault case happened behind Bell Hall during the wee hours of the morning.
Lawrence was later arrested and charged with the crimes about a week later. Taking part in his arrest were officers with Georgia College Public Safety, deputies with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Milledgeville Police Department, officers with the Georgia Department of Probation and Parole’s Office, and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
