JV, ninth-grade baseball teams drop doubleheader

MOULTRIE — Just two days after sweeping a doubleheader at Tift County, the Colquitt County ninth-grade and junior varsity baseball teams were unable to duplicate the effort on Saturday at home, dropping a pair of games to visiting Lee County.
The Packers junior varsity managed just a second-inning single by Chance Sealy and fell to the Trojans 5-0.
McKenzie Powell started for Colquitt County and gave up four runs over four innings. He struck out four, but walked six. Alex Bledsoe gave up one run and one hit over the final three innings.
The ninth-graders Packers wasted a 4-for-4 game by Jacob Walden in a 9-4 loss to Lee County.
The Packers out-hit the Trojans 11-6 in the game, but struck out 10 times.
Nate Creech and Owen Taylor each had two hits and Jaycee Harden, Lucas Tostenson and Carter Boatwright had the other hits.
Creech pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief.
On Thursday in Tifton, the junior varsity Packers bounced back from a 2-0 first-inning deficit to score three runs in the second went on to win 4-2.
Tucker Hathcock and Reese Bledsoe each had two hits and Sealy, Turner Sircy and Mason Davis each had one.
Sealy’s was a double.
Sircy started and got the win after giving up two earned runs and three hits over the first four innings.
He struck out seven and walked two.
Hathcock pitched the final three innings and did not surrender a run. He gave up just one hit and struck out four.
The ninth-grade team scored a run in the first and six more in the third then had to hold off Tift County to claim a 7-6 victory.
Callon Kubiak led the Packers with two hits, including a double. Harden, Tostenson and Henry Daniels each had one hit.
Owen Taylor started on the mound and got the win. He gave up two earned runs and and fanned three.
Daniels went 1.2 innings and gave up three runs. He walked four and struck out three.
Harden got the last out.
The ninth-graders, who are now 6-6-2, and the junior varsity, now 6-9, will close out their seasons on Tuesday when Lincoln High of Tallahassee visits Ike Aultman Field at Jerry Croft Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
