DALTON, Ga. — Marla Maples is coming home next month.

Maples, a Whitfield County native, will be a celebrity guest judge at the “Dancing Stars of Dalton” event on Saturday, April 29, at the convention center. The event is a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter.

“I am honored to be coming home to share in the magic of Dalton’s own ‘Dancing Stars,'” said Maples, who is from Cohutta and attended Northwest Whitfield High School. “What a gift you give, not only to the community in fun and celebration, but also to all those who need the extra love and support that Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia shares.”

She is the ex-wife of President Donald Trump.

Mirroring the popular television show “Dancing With the Stars,” the 11 dancing stars are paired with professionals to raise money by gaining votes in the one-night gala dance competition. This year’s “Dancing Stars of Dalton” local celebrity dancers are Andrew Barkley, Courtney Griffin Johnston, Will Morrow, Beau Patton, Dr. Frank Patterson, David Pierce, Cherri Robertson, Dr. Jessica Rogers, Julie Smith, Brian Spitler and Natima Walker.

“One day those struggling with Alzheimer’s will know peace,” Robertson said. “There will be a cure, but in order to get there we need your help. Yes, I want you to vote for me, but in the end this is a group effort and every dollar earned goes to the same cause.”

With the recent release of the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2017 Facts and Figures Report, it is estimated that there are 140,000 Georgians living with Alzheimer’s disease, and their caregivers are often making significant financial sacrifices to care for their loved ones. Currently 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease kills more people than prostate and breast cancer combined. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death with no cure or treatment to slow its progression.

Other judges are 2016 People’s Choice Winner, Dr. Joseph Veys; 2016 Judge’s Choice Winner, Mallory Rogers Clark; 2014 Judge’s Choice Winner, Derek Waugh; and 2014 Dancing Star, Mitch Sanford.
