Class of 1967 to hold reunion

The Cairo High School Class has begun to plan it 50th class reunion on Oct. 7. Everyone who was a member of the Class of ‘67 is reminded to save the date on their calendar and plan to attend. Health department to offer free services to women

The Southwest Health District is offering a program to women ages 40-64 who reside in Georgia that is aimed at reducing cases of breast and cervical cancer. The Grady County Health Department is participating in this program which will provide free great and cervical cancer screening, diagnostic testing and referral for treatment as medically indicated to uninsured or under-insured women with limited income in Georgia. There is no charge for the services for women enrolled in the BCCP program. For more information, contact the Grady County Health Department.

Legionnaires collecting flags for disposal

The Jake Poller American Legion Post 122 members are having a flag disposal ceremony during April and are asking all local residents who may have torn, tattered or faded flags to submit them for proper disposal. Flags to be retired may be deposited at Carter’s Cleaners, Hester’s Insurance or given to any Legionnaire by April 21. The date of the retirement ceremony will be set later. Mobile home tax due Saturday 

Grady County Tax Commission Barbara Darus reminds everyone in the county who owns a mobile home that ad valorem taxes are due to be paid by Saturday. If you have any questions about the mobile home ad valorem tax, call the tax commissioner’s office at 377-3322.

Library to offer new activities

The Roddenbery Library has announced that it will soon be offering guitar lessons, chess classes and is forming an astronomy club. Contact the library at (229) 377-3632 for more information. Patrons are also asked to call if you would like to have your name added to one of these groups.

Harrell family reunion is

April 8 

The Allen and Abbie Harrell family members will be having their annual reunion Saturday, April 8 at the Turkey Creek Community Center. All family and friends are invited to attend the day of food and fellowship, which will begin at 9 a.m. For more information, call (229) 205-6243.

Kevin Walden Golf Tourney is April 15 

The annual Kevin Walden Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 15 at the Tired Creek Golf Course in Cairo. The event will be a four-person scramble format with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $50 per person, which includes the cart, green fee, lunch and prizes. All proceeds will benefit the Kevin Walden Memorial Scholarship fund. For more information, call 377-4506.

Ushers Anniversary is Saturday 

Members of St. Stephens M.B. Church of Whigham will be celebrating their annual Ushers Anniversary on Saturday at 7 p.m. Deacon Garland Van Walden Sr., the usher president, Sister Mary Mullens, vice president, and the entire congregation invite the community to attend this special event.

Griswold Family to appear at Vineyard Ministries

Rick Griswold and Family will be appearing in concert at Vineyard Ministries, on U.S. 84 East in Cairo, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. One of the most popular traveling gospel music families in the U.S., the Griswold Family will be sharing a night of praise and great music and everyone is invited to attend. A love offering will be received during the service.

Historical Society to have Tour of Homes

The Grady County Historical Society members invite everyone to come tour some of the unique homes in Grady County during their tour of homes on Saturday, April 15. The tours will be conducted between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale this week for $20. The tour is one of the major fundraisers held each year by the historical society and everyone, regardless of membership in the society, is invited to attend. Tickets for the event are on sale now at Hester’s Insurance, Center Drugs, Cox Pharmacy, Miss Myrt’s, the chamber of commerce and from members of the historical society.

Lake Seminole Festival is April 22-23 

The Seminole County Middle/High School Band will again be sponsoring the Lake Seminole Hawg Wild Bass Tournament on Saturday, April 22 at the Lake Seminole Festival. This event has something for everyone and begins with the Hawg Wild Bass Tournament. The festival itself, which includes music, food, fishing and more is a one-day event, but the all new Hawg Wild Bass tournament is a two-day, four quarter, tournament that is open to everyone. In this tournament, 24 gifted (or lucky) teams will win huge cash prizes, five quarterly places, each place ranging from $300 to $1,000, plus, the overall winning team will take home a check for $10,000.
