Gas prices slide

VALDOSTA — The price of gasoline dropped a little in Lowndes County during the past week, according to statistics.
The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Sunday was $2.14, down from $2.17 a week earlier, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
The lowest price for gas in the city Sunday was $2.02 at a store on U.S. 84, while the highest was $2.65 at a North Patterson Street retailer, according to gasbuddy.
Continuing a weeks-long trend, no Valdosta retailer was listed on gasbuddy Sunday as having fuel for less than $2 a gallon.
Nationally, the average price of fuel Sunday was $2.30, down a penny from the previous Sunday, while the state average of $2.19 was down by two cents in the same period, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
In Friday’s market action, oil prices moved lower for the fifth day in a row. Benchmark U.S. oil dipped another 79 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $48.49 a barrel in New York.
After small losses early in the week, the price of U.S. crude dropped 9 percent over the last three days after the government reported a big increase in stockpiles. Brent crude, the international standard, lost 82 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $51.37 a barrel in London.
