Noah’s journey began when he was 16 month old and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Every day Noah receives six to eight shots of insulin.

While watching a documentary on Terry Fox, a cancer patient who attempted to run across Canada to raise awareness for cancer, Noah suggested doing a march for diabetes.

After eight months of planning, the Barnes family traveled to Key West from their home in Jupiter and started their journey to Blaine, Washington.

“The purpose of the march is to cure diabetes,” Noah said.

Robert Barnes, Noah’s father said they teamed up with University of Florida Diabetes Institute and Diabetes Research Connection. The funds raised will go towards their diabetes research.

Robert said their goal is $30 million; one dollar for every person with Type 1 diabetes.

There have been bumps in the road since the beginning.

The RV that would be their support during the trip broke down on the way to Key West for the start of the journey.

They purchased safety vests after Mark Baumer, a man walking across America barefoot to raise awareness about climate change was killed when a SUV struck him on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 90 in Walton County on Jan. 21.

Noah’s March crossed the Florida/Georgia border on Day 62 of their trip.

Their target date of reaching Blaine, Washington is November 4.
