Michelle Juarez, city chief financial officer, said Johnson has provided janitorial services for 10 years and received a high score from staff who evaluated the three bids received.

Johnson was not the lowest bid, but is within 3 percent of the low bid and a local firm, Juarez said.

“We’ve tightened up the contract we had,” she told the council.

The council approved spending $137,375 for 25 in-car camera systems for Thomasville Police Department vehicles. Another 18 cameras will be replaced in 2018.

The bid from Watch Guard is $1,960 higher than the only other bid received. Police Chief Troy Rich said the Watch Guard bid includes a third camera per-vehicle not included in the low bid.

Also approved was spending $6,500 for an in-car video server.

In other business, council members OK’d:

• The purchase of a trailer-mounted vacuum hydro excavator for the Electric Operations Department. The equipment will be purchased from low bidder Vermeer Southeast Sales and Service for $48,212.

• Buying a three-quarter-ton extended cab pickup truck with a service body for public works from low bidder Hub City Ford in Crestview, Florida, for $35,996. Another public works vehicle will be replaced with a spare truck from the engineering department.
